Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) launches inaugural service to Mexico with a news conference and Mexican-themed celebration at John Wayne Airport. The carrier's first-ever scheduled flight from California to Mexico will depart for San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos at Noon. Southwest Airlines began service from Orange County in May of 1994, with 15 flights to two cities: Oakland and largest aSan Jose. Twenty years later, Southwest is Orange County's ir carrier with more than 50 flights a day offering nonstop service to 10 cities in the US and five near-international countries.
