Southwest Airlines Names New Management For Baltimore/Washington Region

Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) recently named Mike Miller as station manager for its operations at Baltimore/Washington International Airport and Matt Hafner as the Baltimore/Washington regional director. Both will transition into their new positions at the end of August.

"I look forward to working with the Employees and Customers in the greater Washington D.C. area," said Miller. "I am committed to continuing Southwest's success at Baltimore/Washington International."

As a station manager, Miller will ensure the safe and efficient operation of all Southwest flight activities at the Baltimore/Washington International Airport. Miller began his career with Southwest Airlines in the spring of 1987 as an Albuquerque provisioning agent. Throughout his 14-year tenure with the Company, Miller has held several positions including: provisioning manager, manager of ramp and operations, assistant station manager, and most recently Orlando station manager.

Southwest also welcomes the new Baltimore/Washington regional director, Hafner. He joined the Southwest family in 1988 where he served as a Dallas ramp agent. He has held a variety of positions in many Southwest cities including: Customer Service agent, Customer Service supervisor, operations supervisor, and assistant station manager. Most recently, Hafner served as the Baltimore/Washington Station Manager. In his new position, Hafner will oversee the ground operations functions in Baltimore/Washington, Manchester, Providence, and Hartford/Springfield airports.

"Matt has strong leadership skills, personality, and extensive job knowledge," said Chris Wahlenmaier, Southwest's senior director of ground operations. "We look forward to working with him in his new position."

Southwest began service to Baltimore/Washington International Airport in September 1993 with eight daily nonstop departures to Chicago Midway and Cleveland. Southwest has increased service at Baltimore/Washington to 127 daily non-stop departures to 31 cities, which is an 800 percent increase in eight years! Baltimore/Washington is Southwest's fifth busiest airport out of the 58 airports Southwest currently serves. The carrier will add Norfolk, Va., to its system in October 2001.
