Southwest Airlines Brands Its Internet Only Fare Sales

Right up there with "yearend clearance," "triple coupons," and the "early bird special," the folks at Southwest Airlines have coined a new phrase which translates into great savings in air travel.

"Click 'n Save" is the new name for the airlines' Internet-only fare specials which are announced each Tuesday. Click 'n Save Internet Specials are discounted fares to destinations from each city Southwest serves. Extra sale destinations have been added to this week’s offering in order to highlight the Click 'n Save theme.

"The Southwest Airlines web site has proven to be an effective way for us to reach our Customers," said Kevin Krone, Southwest's director of marketing automation. "By branding the product with the Click 'n Save name, we hope to build more familiarization for it so that more people can start clicking and saving."

The Click 'n Save Internet Specials announced today include roundtrip travel between such cities as Burbank and Las Vegas for just $32 each way, Baltimore/Washington and Providence for $24 each way, Reno/Tahoe and San Jose for $26 each way, Chicago/Midway and Indianapolis for $23 each way, and between Los Angeles and Phoenix for just $30 each way*.

All travel must be purchased by midnight Pacific Daylight Time on Aug. 13, 1998 for travel from Aug. 17 through Dec. 17, 1998**.

Visitors can access the Southwest Airlines Home Gate, www.southwest.com, using any Internet access provider and popular browser such as Netscape 1.22, Microsoft 3.0, or greater. These browsers provide the necessary security for Internet purchases.

Customers who wish to purchase these discounted fares simply select "Click 'n Save" on the Home Gate’s opening page to link to more information. Purchase of Ticketless Travel Online must be made with a credit card. The Customer simply uses the confirmation number given at the end of the transaction, instead of a paper ticket, to travel.

Rapid Rewards Freedom Reward members--those members who have earned their personalized, plastic membership cards--who are taking advantage of this great savings also will benefit from the award of double flight credit on purchases made through the Internet by April 30, 1999. All Rapid Rewards Freedom Reward members who purchase travel on the Internet, and who fly before April 30, 1999, will receive double flight credit in Southwest's frequent flyer program. To receive a free ticket through Rapid Rewards, members need only accumulate a total of 16 flight credits (or eight roundtrips) within 12 consecutive months.

Customers who book their travel via the Internet can now subscribe to get Click 'n Save e-mail updates, the latest fare sale information, each Tuesday from Southwest Airlines delivered right to their e-mail "in" box. It's easy to subscribe. Just visit www.southwest.com/email for more information.

*Fares listed are one-way and require roundtrip purchase with at least a one-night stayover. Seats are limited and won't be available on some flights that operate during very busy travel times and holiday periods. Fares are nonrefundable, but may be applied, if unused, toward the purchase of future travel on Southwest Airlines. Any change in reservation, destinations, travel dates, and/or passengers names will result in an increase in fare. Fares do not include airport-assessed passenger facility charges of up to $12 roundtrip. Travel after Sept. 30, 1998 is subject to an additional $1 Federal tax each way.

** Due to unusually high demand, these fares will not be available for travel on Nov. 24 through Nov. 30, 1998.
