Southwest Airlines Adds New Routes, New Flights

New Service to Include Phoenix-Baltimore/Washington Nonstop

Southwest Airlines today announced it will add new nonstop service from Baltimore/Washington to Phoenix and from Baltimore/Washington to San Antonio.

The carrier also will add new flights from Baltimore/Washington to Providence, Tampa, and Ft. Lauderdale on Dec. 7, 1998.

"Our growth at Baltimore/Washington International Airport has been nothing short of phenomenal, and this new service promises to augment that growth," said Joyce Rogge, Southwest's vice president of marketing. "The new flights also add some convenient and desirable direct service from Providence and Tampa."

Southwest will offer three nonstop roundtrips each day between Baltimore/Washington and Phoenix. The schedule is as follows:

With the addition of this new service, Southwest will offer seven daily nonstop, direct, or connecting flights from Baltimore/Washington to Phoenix and five daily nonstop, direct, or connecting flights from Phoenix to Baltimore/Washington.

Between Baltimore/Washington and San Antonio, Southwest will offer one nonstop roundtrip flight daily. Flight #93 from Baltimore/Washington to San Antonio departs at 8:10 a.m. and arrives at 10:40 a.m. The flight from San Antonio to Baltimore/Washington departs at 11:05 a.m. and arrives at 3:15 p.m. With the addition of this new service, Southwest will offer seven daily nonstop, direct, or connecting flights from Baltimore/Washington to San Antonio and six daily nonstop, direct, or connecting flights from San Antonio to Baltimore/Washington.

Southwest also is adding one nonstop flight from Baltimore/Washington to Providence, flight #1218, which departs at 8:35 p.m. and arrives in Providence at 9:40 p.m. Flight #75 from Providence to Baltimore/Washington departs at 10:30 a.m. and arrives at 11:40 a.m. The new service brings to 11 the number of nonstop daily flights Southwest offers in each direction between Baltimore/Washington and Providence.

Now, Customers traveling from Providence to Phoenix have convenient direct service which requires a stop in Baltimore/Washington, but no change of planes.

Likewise, the new flight from Baltimore/Washington to Providence offers the opportunity for Customers to travel from Tampa to Baltimore/Washington and continue on to Providence without changing planes.

Southwest also is adding a nonstop roundtrip between Baltimore/Washington and Tampa. Flight #929 departs Baltimore/Washington at 3:20 p.m. and arrives in Tampa at 5:40 p.m. Flight #1218 from Tampa to Baltimore/Washington departs at 6:00 p.m. and arrives at 8:05 p.m. The new flight brings to four the number of daily nonstop flights Southwest offers in each direction between Baltimore/Washington and Tampa.

Southwest also is adding a nonstop roundtrip between Baltimore/Washington and Ft. Lauderdale. Flight #77, which departs at 3:40 p.m., arrives in Ft. Lauderdale at 6:20 p.m. From Ft. Lauderdale, flight #248 departs at 6:45 p.m. and arrives in Baltimore/Washington at 9:10 p.m.

Southwest started service from Baltimore/Washington International Airport on Sept. 15, 1993 with five daily nonstop departures to Cleveland and three daily nonstop departures to Chicago Midway. The airline will have 74 daily flights out of Baltimore/Washington to 18 nonstop destinations with the additions to service on Dec. 7.
