Jackson Gets New Nonstop Flight

Business Travelers Will Love the Early Flight

Southwest Airlines today announced it will add a new daily nonstop flight between Houston's Hobby Airport and the Jackson International Airport.

"The people of Mississippi have continued to embrace the Southwest brand of service, and their loyalty has caused the demand for additional service," said Pete McGlade, Southwest's vice president of schedule planning. "The additional roundtrip between the two cities should be extremely popular with business travelers because it will allow them to depart Jackson early in the morning, spend a full business day in Houston, and return in the evening."

The new flight from Jackson to Houston, Southwest flight #10, departs at 7 a.m. and arrives in Houston at 8:10 a.m. The new return flight, Southwest flight #53, departs Houston's Hobby Airport at 8:50 p.m. and arrives in Jackson at 9:55 p.m.

With the new flight, Southwest offers four roundtrips daily between Houston and Jackson. The airline, which started service to Jackson in August 1997, also offers two daily roundtrip flights between Jackson and both Baltimore/Washington International Airport and Chicago's Midway Airport and one daily roundtrip between Jackson and Orlando.

Southwest Airlines, the only major airline to operate an all-jet fleet of Boeing 737s, was the launch customer of the Boeing 737-700 series in January 1998. Southwest was a launch customer for the 737-300 in 1981, as well as the 737-500 in 1987. The carrier operates a fleet of 272 Boeing 737s with an average age of 8.4 years--one of the youngest pure jet fleets in the domestic airline industry.
