Southwest Airlines Offers Low Military Fares

Southwest announced today it will offer special military fares for scheduled service to the 52 destinations in its route system.

"Southwest understands that military personnel often travel far from home while on duty," said Joyce Rogge, Southwest's vice president of marketing. "Our special military fares help personnel take their holiday leave time without making their wallets go AWOL."

The special military fares require reservations and are valid for travel from Dec. 15, 1998, through Jan. 15, 1999. No advance purchase is required; however, fares are subject to change until ticketed. Seats are limited and won't be available on some flights. The fares are good for active military personnel and their dependents, and standard military identification requirements and policies apply. The special military fares do not necessarily reflect the lowest fares available between two cities.

Examples of the special military fares are as follows: San Antonio to Phoenix, $143 one-way; San Diego to Las Vegas, $59 one-way; and Baltimore to Tampa, $93 one-way.

Any change in itinerary may result in an increase in fare. Fares do not include airport taxes of up to $6 each way. Fares also do not include a $2 federal excise tax that will be imposed on each flight segment of the itinerary. A flight segment is defined as a takeoff and landing.
