Southwest announces new service between Kansas City International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport beginning Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. The U.S. Department of Transportation granted Southwest Airlines authority to serve the new route in response to Southwest's petition, which was actively supported by Kansas City Mayor Sly James and Kansas City Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh, A.A.E.

January 30, 2014

Southwest is notified of its winning bid in an auction for 54 slots–allowing 27 additional daily flights–that will bring more competition to Reagan National Airport, three miles from downtown Washington, D.C. If approved by the Department of Justice, the additional slots will translate to an increase in Southwest's service at Reagan National from 17 daily departures to 44 daily departures.

Southwest's Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of $.04 per share to Shareholders of record at the close of business on March 6, 2014 on all shares then issued and outstanding. The 150th consecutive dividend will be paid on March 27, 2014.

February 03, 2014

Southwest announces they will offer new nonstop service to domestic destinations from Dallas Love Field following the repeal of flight restrictions imposed in 1979 limiting the reach of Dallas' most convenient airport. Southwest will begin serving five new nonstop destinations on Oct. 13, followed by ten additional new nonstop destinations on Nov. 2. The addition of these 15 new nonstop destinations will bring Southwest to a total of 31 nonstop destinations from Love Field.

Southwest announces that 73 nonprofit hospitals and medical organizations from across the nation have been selected for the Southwest Airlines 2014 Medical Transportation Grant Program, with the total impact touching 99 facilities. Through the program, participating nonprofit hospitals and medical programs can provide complimentary, roundtrip airline tickets to families who are facing serious illness and need to travel for specialized medical care. Being able to fly for free to receive the best medical treatment available eases the financial burden on families, giving those who are already facing so much one less thing to worry about. In 2014, Southwest will provide more than $2.8 million in free transportation to caregivers and patients seeking medical treatment.

Southwest kicks off its 2014 Adopt-A-Pilot (AAP) program by celebrating aviation careers in a whole new way at Discovery World in Milwaukee. Through a relationship with Discovery World, Southwest AAP Pilots will address dozens of Milwaukee Public Schools students on Thursday, Feb.13th about careers in aviation and the math and science that go into every flight. The students also will take part in Discovery World aviation curriculum and have an opportunity to experience the Discovery World flight simulator. Through the unique AAP volunteer program, Southwest Airlines and AirTran Pilots across the country donate their time from February through May to educate students via fun aviation-themed activities relating to their core subjects.

Southwest Airlines and the carrier's Flight Simulation Technicians, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local Union No. 19, agree to a new two-year Contract. The Contract, ratified during the previous week, provides opportunities for bonuses tied to Company and Flight Simulation Technicians' performance, as well as other mutually beneficial enhancements.

Southwest Airlines and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) 550, representing the carrier's 250 Flight Dispatchers, agree to amend their collective bargaining agreement, extending their current agreement through November 2015. The contract was previously amendable in November 2014. The Contract, ratified the previous week, provides opportunities for continued bonuses that are tied to the performance of the Flight Dispatchers and the Company.

Southwest Airlines Cargo has once again become the only U.S.-based airline to earn the highly coveted Diamond Award in the "up to 299,999 tonnes" category in Air Cargo World's tenth annual Air Cargo Excellence Survey. Southwest Cargo earned high marks for its great Customer Service, Performance, Value, and use of Information Technology.

Southwest Airlines announces that it is more than doubling its flights at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) with seven new nonstop routes and additional connecting itineraries beginning this summer. By the end of 2014, Southwest will offer 44 daily departures to 14 destinations from Reagan National Airport. The new service, made possible by a recent divestiture of take-off and landing slots, and begins with special introductory pricing as low as $84 for travel every day except Fridays and Sundays.

Southwest Airlines is flying fuel efficient and environmentally friendly Required Navigational Performance (RNP) approaches at Denver International Airport (DIA). RNP approaches can reduce flying by 3-5 miles during a visual approach and up to 20 miles during an instrument approach each time they are flown at DIA. These flights follow highly predictable paths and allow descents at idle power from high altitude cruise, which is the quietest and most fuel efficient way for an aircraft to arrive. Working closely with local and regional FAA and DIA officials, major contributions have been made to the development of those procedures as part of an ongoing major redesign of the airspace at DIA.

Southwest Airlines calls on its Customers in the greater Kansas City area to join an online petition that asks the U.S. Department of Transportation to grant Southwest the permanent authority to continue operating the only daily, low-fare, large-jet nonstop service between Kansas City International Airport (KCI) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Without Southwest's daily nonstop service between the Nation's Capital and the "Paris of the Plains," Kansas City area travelers would be left with three regional jet flights (with an average capacity of 63 seats per flight) offered by US Airways.

Southwest Airlines operates its first revenue flight utilizing a Boeing 737-800 equipped with Aviation Partner's Boeing Split Scimitar Winglets. By upgrading the 737-800s with Split Scimitar Winglets, annual fuel savings are estimated to increase from approximately 3.5 percent per aircraft from Blended Winglets to approximately 5 to 5.5 per aircraft annually.

Southwest Airlines announces it will contribute $228 million- the largest total dollar amount ever allocated- directly to Employees through its ProfitSharing Plan this year. Southwest was the first in the industry to offer a ProfitSharing Plan, and this is the company's 40th consecutive ProfitSharing payment. Southwest Employees currently own more than four percent of the Company's outstanding shares.

Today's announcement marks the completion of the domestic rollout of the technology that will make getting through the airport quicker and greener. Southwest Airlines launched international service for Milwaukee's largest airline by inaugurating service to Cancun, Mexico from General Mitchell International Airport. Flight 1012 departed Milwaukee on time at 8:50 a.m. CDT and was expected to arrive ontime just after 12:30 p.m. CDT. In nearly five years, the carrier has grown into Mitchell International's largest carrier, carrying nearly half of all passengers at the airport.

Southwest Airlines signs an agreement with Red Rock Biofuels LLC (RRB) to purchase low carbon renewable jet fuel, made using forest residues that will help reduce the risk of destructive wildfires in the Western United States. The airline's agreement with RRB covers the purchase of approximately three million gallons per year. The blended product will be used at Southwest's Bay Area operations with first delivery expected in 2016.

In celebration of the Grand Ole Opry's Birthday and Country Music Month, the Opry and Southwest Airlines are returning to the heart of New York City for a second annual series of free acoustic performances at the Southwest Porch at Bryant Park. Nashville's New Music in New York is set to feature some of country music's top new acts including The Swon Brothers (Sept. 29), Dustin Lynch (Oct. 1), and Kristian Bush of Sugarland (Oct. 2). As part of the Nashville-to-New York experience, the artists will travel to New York's LaGuardia Airport on Southwest with the Opry's signature microphone stand in tow, and a replica of the famed circle of wood from center stage at the Opry House, to perform in the heart of Manhattan at Bryant Park.

Southwest Airlines publishes an initial flight schedule for new, daily nonstop service between Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport and Juan Santa Maria International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica, facilitating connecting service between 17 additional cities in the U.S. and the carrier's first destination in Central America, subject the approval of the government of Costa Rica.

Southwest Airlines is giving away 1,000 free flights to celebrate its new-found freedom from its home airport, Dallas Love Field. The carrier is celebrating the repeal of the law known as the "Wright Amendment" which was imposed in 1979, limiting the reach of Dallas' convenient airport. Starting today, the airline begins offering new nonstop flights from Love Field to the first of 17 destinations. Flight 1013 to Denver is the first post-Wright flight to depart Love Field.

The tentative agreement is for a new four year contract and requires Membership ratification.

Southwest Airlines announces the distribution of products made in Kenya and the U.S. as part of its global upcycling initiative LUV Seat: Repurpose with Purpose. The distribution in Kenya completes the second phase of the multi-year environmental program, which will upcycle approximately 80,000 former airline seat coverings into new leather products to provide valuable training and jobs in several communities in addition to keeping these materials out of a landfill.

Southwest Airlines announces today that it has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers® by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse. The airline placed 33rd on the list, up from its previous rankings. This marks the sixth consecutive year for Southwest to receive this honor. Criteria for recognition includes the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

The City of Houston, Southwest Airlines and the Project for Public Spaces announces an effort that will lead to a new vibrant place in downtown Houston and reimagine the Central Library Plaza located between the Central Library and the Julia Ideson Building across the street from City Hall. A Heart of the Community grant from Southwest Airlines is the catalyst that will allow the Houston Public Library to implement its plan to redesign the space, turning it into a welcoming and vibrant extension of the buildings flanking the Plaza. The concept of Placemaking will be at the center of the revitalization effort to turn the now underutilized space into an energetic hub which will spark social, economic, environmental and cultural benefits throughout the central business district.

The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA) today filed for mediation with the National Mediation Board (NMB), the federal agency that oversees contract negotiations for the airline industry. Babbitt said that the company indicated its willingness to file jointly for mediation, which would have allowed the parties to seek Expedited Mediation from the NMB, a process that would likely lead to an agreement quicker than traditional mediation, but SWAPA declined that offer.

Southwest Airlines files applications with the U.S. Department of Transportation requesting approval to serve six destinations in Latin America with new, daily, nonstop service from William P. Hobby Airport in Houston. After receiving U.S. government approval of the new service, Southwest will begin selling these flights at Southwest.com, offering Customers nonstop options between Houston (Hobby) and four destinations in Mexico—Cancun, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos—as well as flights to San Jose, Costa Rica, and Belize City, Belize. Service to Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City, Belize, adds a second destination in Central America, a seventh country, and the 96th city on the Southwest route map.

Southwest Airlines announces it will share $355 million through its ProfitSharing Plan with its Employees for 2014—equaling approximately 9.6 percent of each eligible Employee's eligible compensation, or the equivalent of five weeks' pay. This $355 million contribution—nearly $1 million a day—is the largest total dollar amount Southwest has ever allocated to ProfitSharing. Not only is this amount $127 million more than the previous record, set with last year's contribution of $228 million, but it's also more than the last two years of ProfitSharing combined—an increase of 56 percent compared with 2013. Since its inception, Southwest Airlines has shared more than $2.8 billion with its Employees through ProfitSharing—and almost $1 billion in the past six years alone.

Southwest Airlines announces that 75 nonprofit hospitals and medical organizations from across the nation will benefit from the Southwest Airlines 2015 Medical Transportation Grant Program, with the total impact reaching 101 facilities. Through the program, participating nonprofit hospitals and medical programs provide complimentary, roundtrip airline tickets to families who need to travel for specialized medical care. Receiving world class medical attention is more attainable when the cost of travel is not an issue. In 2015, Southwest will provide more than $3.2 million in free transportation to caregivers and patients seeking medical treatment, a 14 percent increase from the 2014 program.

Southwest Airlines today invited Customers to lock-in low-fare travel as it adds more Heart in more cities across the United States. The airline extends its flight schedule through Oct. 30, 2015. The new schedule will bring more nonstop service and new destinations beginning Aug. 9, 2015, for travelers flying Southwest in Santa Ana/Orange County, Washington, D.C. (Reagan National), and Columbus, Ohio. Southwest Airlines today published 16 additional flights, including service to eight new nonstop cities, from Dallas Love Field. For the first two months of 2015, the Company flew 15.6 billion RPMs, compared with 14.6 billion RPMs flown for the same period in 2014, an increase of 7.3 percent. Year-to-date ASMs increased 7.0 percent to a level of 20.2 billion compared with the 18.9 billion for the same period in 2014. The year-to-date load factor was 77.4 percent, compared with 77.2 percent for the same period in 2014.

Southwest Airlines celebrates more than 30 years of service in the state of Missouri with the unveiling of the Airline's newest specialty aircraft, named Missouri One—a Boeing 737-700. Southwest and state and local government leaders revealed the aircraft in Kansas City, where Southwest first began its Missouri service in 1982. The aircraft, emblazoned with an artist's rendition of the Missouri state flag, is unveiled at a ceremony this morning at the Kansas City location of Aviation Technical Services, with whom Southwest has partnered for more than 35 years. Southwest Airlines announces new nonstop service from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to Orlando, Florida beginning on Nov. 1. Orlando will be Southwest's third Florida destination from DCA, where it is the second largest carrier as measured by passengers carried. Southwest Airlines proudly sponsors Honor Flight Network and donated more than $20,000 in air travel for nearly 50 Lone Eagle Veterans and their guardians to participate in a special Honor Flight and V.E. Day 70th Anniversary commemoration event in Washington, D.C. The event in early May included a massive flyover of WWII aircraft and a ceremony at the WWII Memorial, during which Southwest provided refreshments and snacks to Veterans in attendance. The June 2015 load factor was a record for the month of June at 86.2 percent, compared with 86.1 percent in June 2014. For the second quarter of 2015, the Company flew 30.9 billion RPMs, compared with 28.6 billion RPMs flown for the same period in 2014, an increase of 7.9 percent. Second quarter 2015 ASMs increased 7.0 percent to a level of 36.5 billion, compared with second quarter 2014 ASMs of 34.1 billion. Southwest Airlines announces several Leadership changes among the Company's deep bench of top talent. The changes present opportunities for both promotions and new challenges for current Southwest Leaders, as the carrier continues its focus on delivering world-class Reliability and Hospitality.

Craig Drew, previously Vice President, Flight Operations, has been promoted to a new position as Senior Vice President, Air Operations. This position will consolidate oversight of all the operating teams associated with moving aircraft including Flight Operations, Cabin Services, the Network Operations Control Center (NOC), and Regulatory Programs & Compliance.

Alan Kasher, previously Managing Director, Regulatory Programs & Compliance, has been promoted to the Vice President, Flight Operations.

Mike Hafner, previously Vice President, Cabin Services, will shift his focus and assume a newly created role of Vice President, Customer Services.

Sonya Lacore has been promoted to Vice President, Cabin Services, and will report to Craig Drew. Sonya was previously Senior Director, Onboard Experience and Support.

Southwest Airlines announces Tom Nealon will join Southwest Airlines in January 2016 as Executive Vice President Strategy & Innovation. Until recently, Nealon served Southwest as a member of its Board of Directors. Southwest Airlines announces nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport and Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia/Guanacaste, Costa Rica beginning in April 2016. The Union's Executive Board reviewed an Agreement in Principle that negotiators reached December 23rd and decided to conduct a ratification vote that could end more than four years of negotiations.

Southwest Airlines announces it will share $620 million through its ProfitSharing Plan with its Employees for 2015—equaling approximately 15.6 percent of each eligible Employee's eligible compensation, or the equivalent of eight weeks' pay. This $620 million contribution—nearly $1.7 million a day—is the largest total dollar amount Southwest has ever allocated to ProfitSharing. This amount, which will be funded April 29, is more than the cumulative contributions to the Plan over the first 25 years ($559 million from 1974-1998).

The carrier has engaged in discussions leading up to today's historic signing ceremony and will participate in a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) frequency allocation proceeding unfolding over the next several weeks.
